While searching for a place to build their summer house around lake Balaton, the family fell in love with the grand, yet tranquil vista from the steep hillside of the famous, basalt-stone hill of Badacsony. After exploring the architecture and culture of the place, they decided to recreate the style of the old Balaton Uplands villas with its characteristic light grey and white walls, and great portico with massive pillars, combining modern technics with old style. Using the local, dark grey basalt stones was just as important as having the essential cellar for keeping great wines from the Balaton region's duly famous white selection.
Light yet warm tones make the interior stylish and cozy with very comfortable, old, but retouched and repainted local wooden furniture. Everything is designed to make you feel at home and at ease with your loved ones.
All beds - ground floor and upstairs alike - feature high-quality, organic coconut fiber and wool mattresses to make sure your rest is as great as your day can be out by the lake.
The big glass surfaces allow you to enjoy the gorgeous view from each and every room of the house. Sunrise is just amazing from the terrace, but so is a storm over the lake, and you can watch all from your sheltered, covered portico or even from the warm, fire-lit living room on a cooler afternoon.
The fully-equipped kitchen in the back of the lounge has a gas stove and an electric oven. The fridge and the freezer are in a separate chamber where you can stock even large amounts of food out of sight, but conveniently accessible. A small, wind-proof back terrace opens from here.
The portico's large dining table, and the fresh herbs in the small garden provide almost all what you need for a memorable fiesta with tasty food and good company in beautiful surroundings.
The Jacuzzi is in use from 1st June onwards, until the late days of September, depending on the autumn weather. Should the Spring weather allow it, the Jacuzzi can be used earlier on request, but that requires a day of preparation in advance.
The house is wheelchair accessible on the ground floor and very child friendly. Kids from all ages are welcome.
The nearest beach is right in Badacsonytomaj, about 10 minutes walk from the house (15 minutes back, uphill) or a short bike ride. There is a local grocery shop, butcher and bakery in about 5-8 minutes walking distance, while the nearest shopping centre with Tesco and other chains less than a 20-minute drive in Tapolca, if you want to stock up.
***
Please note that we do not accept stag/hens weekends, bachelor parties, clubs of party people etc. as we are located in a residential area and the house in owned by a family with kids.
Due to allergies pets are absolutely not allowed inside the house.
This is a non-smoking property. We provide ashtray for use only outside!
Thank you for your understanding.
ENJOY LAKE BALATON AND EXPLORE THE CHARMING KAL BASIN
Things to see and do:
This lovely self-catering luxury villa is perfect for relaxing and discovering the Nothern side of Lake Balaton and the nearby enchanting Kal Basin. From behind the house, upwards you just hit the treks of Badacsony hill and find various marked trekking routes to discover this beautiful natural site on foot.
By car it is really worth driving around in Kal Basin and see its little villages, perhaps go for lunch to Köveskál to Kővirág restaurant, shop at Sundays's Liliomkert Organic Market in Kaptalantoti, or play polo at Szentbekkalla's Kali Polo Club.
Wine tastings: The old Roman Road leads through Badacsonytomaj towards Badacsony village with its many cellars offering vine selections from this region. Try Nemeth Cellar (http://www.nemethpince.hu/udvozlo.html) on the Roman road or Borbely Cellar for an authentic, local experience or do a tasting at Szeremley's Szent Orban Winehouse in Badacsony with a very nice view (although not as nice as from your home).
Around Lake Balaton: On the lakeside it is well worth making the short and pleasant trip by car or sail to Szigliget, climb its old fort and try Kikötő Restaurant or Attila Bakos's family restaurant.
Keszthely, Balaton's biggest Nothern city has a great sandy beach (Libas Strand) and the beautiful, nicely reconstructed Festetics Palace with gorgeous gardens and interesting museums (great daytrip with kids). You can rent sail boats in Badacsony harbor and the ferry will take you to the Southern side to Balatonboglar, in about half an hour (no cars, only persons).
If you drive in the other direction on route 71, you should go and see the lively town of Balatonfüred with daily cultural programs and concerts in high season and the adjacent Tihany Peninsula, with its beautiful monastery and Saturday's food and produce market.
The nearest golf range is in Balatonudvari (about 25 min).
The nearest thermal spas are in Hévíz, a World Heritage Site, or Sárvár, both about an hour drive away. You can book personalized treatments and massages here in advance.
